Mark Your Calendars: Upcoming Farms at Work Events (Early 2014)

Upcoming Farms at Work Events Planned for Early 2014

Just before we duck out of the office for the holidays, we wanted to let you all know about a few workshops that we're putting together for early in the new year. These are sure to be exciting and informative events, so grab your brightest coloured notepaper -- you're going to want to stick these up on the fridge!

Seed Saving 101: Saturday February 22nd, 2014 (tentatively)

  • Join us for this full-day workshop in the basics of seed saving. You'll learn tried and tested techniques from regional experts, as well as how to attract the right type of pollinators for specifc plants in your operation. Stay tuned for more details!

Kawartha Farm Stewardship Workshop: Saturday March 1, 2014 (confirmed)

  • This is another full-day workshop for farmers and landowners that will teach you about the various sources of funding and technical assistance avaiable through the Kawartha Farm Stewardship Collaborative for on-farm stewardship projects. Presentions will include farmer testimonials on projects they've completed with assistance through the KFSC (pollinator plantings, wetland restorations, fencing, and more!); a comprehensive outline of the resources available through Growing Forward 2 and how to access them; and interactive breakout sessions led by industry experts on specific project types. This workshop will be held just outside of Peterborough and will include a hot lunch.

Innovative Cold Storage Solutions (TBA): Open Call for Input

  • This is a workshop that we've wanted to put on for a long time now. We know of a few farmers who are doing interesting things to extend their market seasons through cold storage, but we'd love to hear from more of you! If you're doing something interesting, unique or innovative to store your produce through the winter, we'd love to hear from you and somehow involve you in the workshop! Please email your cold storage experiences and accomplishments to Jay Adam -- he'd love to hear from you!

We'd like to thank everyone who attended events and supported our work through 2013. Without you folks, none of this would be possible! So from all of us here at FAW (Pat, Sue and Jay), we'd like to wish you a safe and happy holiday, and look forward to seeing you all in the new year!
